Talks from the heart… Strength

“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.” – Rikki Rogers

This quote takes me back a loooong time ago… I was 8 or 9 and I was in the local gymclub.

It’s not like I was the next Nadia Comaneci of that time but I loved doing gymnastics. I was quite agile (still am as a matter of fact!) but I still couldn’t do the splits. I just couldn’t… no matter how hard I tried…

But then one evening I was practising in my sister’s room. Maggy, my sister, was helping me out… pushing hard on both my shoulders to make sure I could just get a bit closer to the ground… but I struggled and at a point she stopped helping me so I went to my own room to practise some more.

And then, there I did it… in my room while no one was watching… I was doing the splits like a pro! I got up and ran to Maggy’s room again and bam… there I was in splits as if I never did anything else before!

I hadn’t given up… and I was rewarded with a 180° spit… I was so proud as I finally mastered the splits. It gave me strength to practise even more…

Well… I’m sure everyone knows that feeling… that feeling that you have always thought you can’t do a certain thing and then all of a sudden… bam… you just do it!

When that happens you feel such a strength, you feel such energy… it makes you confident… it makes you want to try that certain thing again and again…it makes you feel on top of the world…

Do you remember happening such a thing to you? Where do you get your strenghts from?

Love, Kathleen
