Beauty ‘n Fashion: How to cleanse your face

The best beauty tip I can perhaps give you, is to make sure you cleanse your face thoroughly twice a day. That way you’re left with not only a clean face, but also one that feels fresh, hydrated and is, most of the time, pimple-free!

So this post is all about cleansing your face. I give you several options on how to… read on I’d say… you can thank me later 😀

I have several ways to cleanse my face, depending on how much time I’ve got and what products are stashed in my bathroom cabinet.

Different kinds of cleansing products

1.Micellar water

I have used several micellar waters. It’s a quick, easy and efficient way to cleanse your face. Here are the links to the micellar waters I have tried and tested:

Out of these three micellar waters I liked using the Garnier Skinactive the best as it also removes waterproof make-up.

2.Micellar gel

Now I may like micellar water, but I like micellar gel even better! I found a bottle of Corine De Farme micellar gel in my goodie bag at the Antwerp press days nearly two years ago and I must say that I liked it from the moment I first used it. You can read the review here.

As it is a gel, it gives me the impression that I clean my face better than I do with micellar water. I have bought other micellar waters after using this gel, but everytime I grab back to this gel… And even though it doesn’t remove my waterproof mascara completely, it certainly does a pretty good effort on it!

3.Cleansing milk

This is actually the old-fashioned way to cleanse your face… but still effective! I have used the Naobay cleansing milk of which I wrote a review a couple of weeks ago and even though this milk does it job properly, I still prefer my micellar gel!

When I was using the Naobay milk, I always used a bit of micellar gel afterwards to remove the residues of the cleansing milk.

4.Coconut oil

At night I regularly use coconut oil to remove my make-up. I just put a bit of product on a cotton pad and wipe all the make-up of my face. Coconut oil is also great for removing waterproof mascara ànd it’s very cheap!!

After removing my make-up with coconut oil I will always end with a bit of micellar gel, to take away the greasy effect the oil has.

Coconut oil has so many benefits and you can use it in so many different ways as you can read in one of my first beauty posts I wrote for my blog (here)!

5.Face wash

There are many different types of face wash. The ones I always use are from Estée Lauder. I know I can find cheaper ones at my drugstore, but the ones from Estée Lauder are just soooo good! And a tube really lasts such a long time… I simply don’t bother about trying and testing drugstore face washes 🙂

The two types of face wash I use, are multi-purpose products. There is one which has little scrub particles, which gives your face a very soft peeling (you’re allowed to use it daily, so you can imagine how soft the peeling is!). You can read the review here.

The other one doubles as a face mask. You can use it as a normal face wash, or you can put a thin layer of the product on your face, leave it on for a couple of minutes and then rinse it off. Afterwards, you’re left with the softest of skins I promise! (review)

6.Oil-based cleanser

A couple of months ago I started using the Advanced Precleanser from Rainpharma. It is an oil-based cleanser. First you rub the cleanser on dry skin (you can also use it on your eyes), then you take a bit of water and rub it in even more. Afterwards, you rinse everything off. You can read the full review here.

I love this product. It cleanses thoroughly, has a fresh smell and it is a 100% natural product. Even though my skin doesn’t feel greasy after using this cleanser, I will always end with a bit of my micellar gel.

7.Eye make-up remover

Not all products mentioned above can be used on the eyes, but you can also buy a product which is especially made to remove eye make-up.

I usually don’t bother about a separate cleanser for my eye make-up. In the mornings I don’t think it’s necessary and at night I use an oil based cleanser, which removes my eye make-up very good.

I will however use an oil-based eye make-up remover when I layered on the mascara big time 🙂

8.Toner

It’s a good idea to end your ‘cleasing ritual’ with a toner as it removes any extra dirt and it unclogs the pores. that closes your pores.

As there are different skin types, there are different kinds of toners. I am currently using the L’Oréal Paris toner from the Age Perfect range of which I will do a review next week.

Which products do I prefer?

In the morning: a quick cleanse

  • Estée Lauder face wash during my morning shower
  • L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect toner

At night: a triple cleanse

  • I start with an oil based product: the Advanced precleanser from Rainpharma or the coconut oil.
  • Then I use a water based product: the Corine de Farme micellar gel.
  • Final step: the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect toner

I will always cleanse my face, even when it’s 4 am and I’ve had a couple of drinks too many! I will probably do a less thorough cleanse on such nights and only use some micellar gel, but I will never ever go to bed with make-up on!

And I can certainly recommend a triple cleanse… Ok, that might take a bit longer, but consider this as a bit of me-time! You will also be very satisfied with the result, I promise. Ever since I do a triple cleanse, my skin definitely has improved. I have less break-outs and my skin feels so soft at night.

Which cleansing products do you use? Let me know in the comments!

Love, Kathleen

    1. Never heard of that brand I must admit!! Coconut oil is also a great alternative if you ask me, esp for people with dry skin. But use a toner afterwards to remove residues! Have a fab night 🙂 Love, Kathleenx

  1. I love a good cleansing routine, and its the area that I tend to mix up a bit with different products. I have yet to try a micellair water! I am keen to try one, but I have a few cleansers to get through in my stash. Cleansing balms are also on my list to try. Great post Kathleen xx
