Today you can read the first travelpost on the Cotswolds, one of the most popular regions in England. I will tell you all about Hidcote Manor and Garden and of course I will include lots of pictures!

On arrival, we first visited the Manor House, which was built in the 17th Century as a farm house. In 1907 the house was sold to mrs. Gertrude Winthrop.

It was her son, Lawrence Johnston, who  created the garden. He worked 40 years on the garden, combining his feeling for structure with his love of planting and his knowledge of novel plant combinations.

He was a plant collector and he did plant hunting trips around to world bringing back the finest varieties, making sure that Hidcote had variety, colour and scent throughout the garden.

The garden consists of different garden rooms, a Long Walk, wilderness, narrow paved pathways, secret gardens,… It is frequented by more than 170.000 visitors every year.

We enjoyed our visit to Hidcote although here and there were signs of the hot and dry weather it had been the weeks prior to our visit. Some plants and shrubs didn’t look as fresh as they used to I guess!

But this garden definitely is worth a visit if you like nature, parks and gardens!
