In today’s travelpost, I take you to a very quiet, quaint, charming and picturesque village in the middle of the Luberon: Oppède-le-Vieux.

The Luberon is a very beautiful region in the South of France. It is a massif composed of three mountain ranges: the Petit Luberon, the Grand Luberon and the Luberion Oriental. The picturesque towns and villages, the gastronomy, the history, and the many possibilities of sports activities attract a huge amount of tourists throughout the year.

During our holiday in the South of France, we visited several villages in the Luberon and we were seriously charmed. I already shared with you several travelposts on Gordes and this time I have another village for you: Oppède-le-Vieux.

The day we visited Oppède-le-Vieux, we also visited Ménèrbes and Roussillon. In the next 2 weeks, you can read about those two villages as well. In the Roussillon-post I will also share our itinerary from that day!

Oppède-le-Vieux is a tiny village, which is settled on a rock. It might be less known than Gordes, Ménèrbes and Roussillon, but to me, this was the most beautiful and unspoilt village out of the four.

To visit Oppède-le-Vieux, park your car at the car park below the village. It’s a short, but very pleasant walk towards the centre of the village. You pass beautiful vegetation and have some stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

When we arrived in the little village, we started our visit on the terrace of a little café. In turned out to be the most perfect place to have my Monday morning coffee!

Then we continued our way up the hill, towards the Church of Notre Dame d’Alidon, a 13th century church which is renovated recently.

The views up here are absolutely breath-taking and I think I appreciated them even more as it was just an ordinary Monday morning in April… the weather was so nice and sunny… there were hardly any people up here… and here I was… with my husband and daughter… and we were just so lucky to be in this fabulous place on earth!

We only spent a couple of hours in Oppède-le-Vieux, which was enough for a walk around the village and something to eat and drink. There are several walks and hikes passing Oppède-le-Vieux. If you want to do one of them, then of course your visit will take longer!

Love, Kathleen

PS: I want to apologize for looking so ridiculously happy in these pictures 😀
