“If you love writing or making music or blogging or any sort of performing art, then do it. Do it with everything you’ve got. Just don’t plan on using it as a shortcut to making a living.” – Seth Godin
I did all this just to be able to write about it… to create content… to make posts that I like myself… because to be honest…I started this blog purely for my own pleasure and after nearly a year I am glad to say that I still find a lot of enjoyment and fulfillment in it.
I have never ever focused on how many followers I’ve got, how many views, how many comments, how many likes… Sure I look at my stats daily… but I do not actually do something with them.
I write about stuff I’m interested in and I hope that the people who read my posts like them, that they are inspired by them, that they get new ideas out of them. I hope they appreciate my blog which I work on with a lot of enthusiasm and I hope that this enthusiasm shows…
So, as Seth Godin says in above quote, I do not remotely use my blog as a shortcut to make a living… not at all… I do not make a living out of it, but it sure makes me live!
I know that I could get more out of blogging… I could get stuff for free, I could get paid for writing about certain brands. But at the moment that is not a priority. If an interesting opportunity arises, I accept it but it’s not that the opportunities are piling up… But what is most important to me is, that this blog keeps me alert, it keeps me on point, it keeps me going.
What I like so much about blogging is that I am actually my own boss… I decide about what I write, which outfit I will put in the picture, which quote I will let my thoughts run loose on,… I set some goals and I try to achieve them and if I don’t, well the only person I am accountable to is myself.
I’ve got a lot of people to thank over this past year… first of all my family. I put a lot of hours in this blog, so the computer is constantly hijacked. And whenever I need someone to take photos of me, I can always count on my husband or my kids.
I also want to thank the people of the Facebook-group ‘Bloggerscafé’. It’s a group for Belgian and Dutch bloggers. Whenever I’ve got a blog-related problem, I just post it in the group and there is always someone with good advice.
Then there are so many bloggers I started following this last year. I thank you all for the inspiration you give me. And in return I hope I can be a bit of an inspiration to you.
Last but not least I want to thank my readers and followers. Thanks for your comments, your positivity, your enthusiasm. It means a great deal to me!
So on to another year of good, fab and lovely posts… Cheers!
