Talks from the heart… Quotes for my 18-year old

My son has turned 18 last Thursday… and those 18 years have gone by in a flash! To look back on 18 beautiful years with my son and to give him some advice for his further life, I have found some quotes I want to share with you.

Dear Stef, my ‘little’ boy…

I don’t think you will read this post as you are so proud of the fact that you have never ever visited my blog (shame on you!)… But I will post this anyway and secretly I hope that (one day) you will read this.

Don’t be alarmed, I won’t say anything that might embarrass you. I only want to share some beautiful quotes with you. Quotes that immediately made me think of you and quotes to give you a bit of advice for the future… take it or leave it 🙂

With your two sisters.

I am proud of who you have become: a thoughtful young man, passionate about Harry Potter and footbal, calm… on the outside that is, helpful and caring albeit a bit stubborn once in a while…

This post is especially for you Stef. Happy 18th birthday.

“I think that the best thing we can do for our children is to allow them to do things for themselves, allow them to be strong, allow them to experience life on their own terms, allow them to take the subway… let them be better people, let them believe more in themselves.” – C. Joybell C (Believe in yourself Stef and you’re halfway there! I know what you’re capable of and I know it’s a whole lot more than what most people think. Surprise them and show them what you’re made off!)

‘They might not need me, but they might. I’ll let my head be just in sight, a smile as small as mine, might be precisely their necessity.’ – Emily Dickinson (I also wrote this quote in the post I made for your sister’s 21st birthday. This quote expresses my overall feelings about you, but also about your two sisters, no matter how old you all are. Please remember that I am always there for you… when you need me… and even more so for when you think you don’t…).

“Growing up is losing some illusions, in order to acquire others.” – Virginia Woolf (but you stand with both feet firmly on the ground my dear Stef, determined, undisturbed and down to earth as you are!)

“Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.” – Albert Einstein

“It’s in your head”  – Dolores O’Riordan (the slogan of your favourite football team… yip… the one that’s in your head, but also in your heart!)

“I have a son, who is my heart. A wonderful young man, daring and loving and strong and kind.” Maya Angelou

“I love when I teach my son a good lesson. But I love it even more when he teaches me.” –  Brad Meltzer (this is a fun one… you are often so serious when I’m goofing around… and then I ask myself ‘now who is the child?!’ 😀 )

And to end with these wonderful JK Rowling quotes…

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” – JK Rowling

“It’s important to remember that we all have magic inside us.” JK Rowling

“It is our choices who show who we truly are, far more than our abilities.” JK Rowling

“The stories we love best, live in us forever” JK Rowling (We are part of eachothers stories Stef… so I guess we will always have a place in eachothers hearts!)

  1. Ohhhh this has made me emotional! As a mum to sons, one of which turns 18 in March, I can relate so much to this post. Our sons, as do our daughters (iv only got boys) hold our hearts dont they. Congratulations to your son on his 18th, wishing you all the best of wishes. Beautiful post xx

    1. Thank you Kerry. I rarely write about my kids, because I know they don’t like it. I just know that if my son reads this post, he will make me delete it… so I hope he doens’t read it just yet. Time flies, doesn’t it?! 18… my eldest now 21 and my yougest turned 15… you just want to grab time by its horns to stand still. So many beautiful memories, so many love and worry… yip… emotional times!!! Thanks for the love! Kathleen x

    1. They grow up so fast, it’s just hard to imagine he was a cute little toddler… but I love the young man he turned out to be… still needs a bit of work though 😉 Enjoy your little boys and thanks for your comment! Love, Kathleen
