Last week I told you that on the final day of your citytrip to Madrid, we visited Parque del Buen Retiro. Well, today I share with you heaps of pictures of this stunning park!
Leaving Atocha station, you just have to pass a (very busy!!) rotunda to get to the entrance of the Parque del Buen Retiro.
I was pleasantly surprised to find some lovely coloured book stalls at the entrance of the park… great start of a visit to a park I’d say!
Parque del Buen Retiro (or El Retiro) is like a green oasis in the centre of Madrid. It is home to over 15.000 trees, including a 400 year old cypress!
Besides trees, shrubs and flowers, the park also offers a lot of sport activities: rowing on the lake, walking/running/skating through the park,…
You can also visit the Palacio de Cristal… if it’s open that is! I must say I was rather disappointed to find it closed during our visit, so I had to settle for a look from the outside.
Anyway, it really is an impressive building. I guess I’ll have to come back to see it from the inside! The Palacio de Cristal was built in the 1880ies and is a fine example of cast-iron architecture.
We spent about two hours in the park, but you can easily spend an entire day in this piece of Madrid… it’s massive!
Have you ever visited this park? Let me know in the comments!
Love, Kathleen
